Episcopal 101

People who would like to learn about or refresh their understanding of the Episcopal Church history, polity, theology and practices are invited to sign up for Episcopal 101. Grace Church offers a five-week class of one-hour to one-and-one-half-hour sessions once each year for those who are:

  • New to the Episcopal Faith.
  • Would like to be confirmed or received as an Episcopalian.*
  • Cradle-to-Grave Episcopalians who would like to refresh their knowledge.

*Episcopal 101 (also known as Inquirer’s Class) is required for anyone who chooses to be confirmed. A person must have been baptized in order to be confirnmed. If a person has not yet been baptized, the confirmation process includes a baptism. Just let the clergy know and that can be arranged. If a person has previously been confirmed in the Catholic or Lutheran tradition (or other tradition that recognizes apostolic succession like Moravian), a person will be received into the Episcopal Church.

Reception/Confirmation is offered every other year as it requires the participation of a Bishop.

The course draws from resources recognized by the Episcopal Church USA. The foundations of Confirmation and Baptism can be found here: https://episcopalvirginia.org/who-we-are/beliefs-and-practices/
